Institute of Smart Energy Systems Press (ISESP) recognizes the potential of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) to support scholarly communication and research. To protect transparency, confidentiality, scientific accuracy, and research integrity, the following requirements apply across all ISESP journals.
1. Disclosure by Authors
Authors must disclose any substantive use of GenAI in preparing or developing a manuscript. The disclosure should identify the tool used and clearly explain its purpose.
Use of GenAI for writing, editing, or translation should be reported in the Acknowledgements. Use in data analysis, coding, model development, figure generation, energy analytics, simulation, optimization, or other research activities must be appropriately described in the Methods section.
2. Permitted Use
GenAI may be used to support language improvement, formatting, coding, analysis, or research methods, provided that its use is transparent, ethically appropriate, and independently verified by the authors.
Where AI forms part of the research methodology, authors must provide sufficient information about the tool, input data, procedures, validation methods, and limitations to support scientific evaluation.
3. Human Responsibility and Authorship
AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Human authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, validity, citations, data, images, conclusions, and ethical integrity of the submitted work.
Authors must verify all AI-assisted output and ensure that it does not contain fabricated information, false references, plagiarism, bias, or copyright violations.
4. Confidential, Personal, and Organizational Data
Personal data, proprietary technical information, confidential research or organizational records, energy-system data, infrastructure data, operational data, or other restricted research materials must not be uploaded to external AI systems without appropriate authorization, safeguards, and compliance with applicable law and research-ethics requirements.
AI-generated or synthetic data, text, images, code, models, or other research materials must be clearly identified where they form part of the scholarly record and must not be misrepresented as genuine empirical evidence.
5. Reviewers and Editors
Submitted manuscripts are confidential. Reviewers and editors must not upload manuscript content to an AI system where confidentiality cannot be guaranteed.
Any authorized use of AI during peer review or editorial processing must be disclosed. AI must not replace independent expert assessment or make final editorial decisions.
6. Non-Compliance
Undisclosed or inappropriate AI use will be evaluated according to its nature and effect on the integrity of the manuscript. ISESP may request clarification or correction, return the manuscript for revision, reject the submission, withdraw acceptance, or take appropriate post-publication action.
